We all need transportation in some form or fashion. Whether it is an automobile, bus or plane-we need to travel. Paying for transportation can be expensive, and saving money on transportation is something we all want to do. Just look at gas prices, we are now over $3.00 a gallon (some places have reached $4.00). Gas for our cars has now become a mortgage payment.

Transportation prices are always increasing, and saving money on transportation is on everyone's minds. Like everything else in life, knowing how to save money on transportation takes planning. I Don't care if it's transportation for a vacation, school, church, or for work. Saving money on transportation requires planning ahead.

Gasoline

Plan ahead of time! Plan a day to combine your errands into one trip, saving you money on gasoline. Plan your errands with the most efficient route to decrease travel time. The time and money savings that come with planning ahead are well worth it.Go the speed limit. Driving fast uses more gas and doesn't bring you any closer to saving money on transportation. Plus, when you drive fast it wears out your brakes.

Compare gas prices. Purchase the lower grade octane. Get your car maintained, and make sure your tires are inflated to their appropriate pressure.

Airline Fares

Go online to research airfare ticket prices. Check around for websites that offer the best airfare deals. Priceline, hotwire, and lowestfare are great tools to help you save money on transportation.To save even more money on transportation, arrange a Saturday evening stay over. Or travel between Tuesday and Thursday for the best rates when you purchase your ticket.

Make sure your ticket price includes taxes and fees. If not, it can add a considerable amount to the ticket price. Compare all possible ticket prices to ensure you get the best ticket price and save the most money on transportation.

Car Rental

Since automobile rental rates can differ greatly, research to make sure you get the best automobile rental rate and the most savings on transportation. Ask about any additional charges (extra driver, gas, drop-off fees) and special offers. 

If you currently own a car, your car insurance may cover your rental car insurance. Look into it, because rental car insurance costs a lot of money. By having your rental car insurance paid for, you are saving a considerable amount of money on your transportation.

Also, see if your credit card will cover the deductible if an accident or damage happens to the rental car.

Saving money on transportation means doing your research in advance! You need to know the best price, fees, insurance, model, and day to purchase transportation. There are always ways to save money on transportation. Whether you are looking for ways to save on gasoline, airfare, or car rental (or purchasing a new or used car), you need to be informed.
